Storm claims one, property worth millions destroyed

Biratnagar, June 4:

A child died and property worth million of rupees was damaged in a storm in Morang district.

The house belonging to one Man Kumari at Tankisinwari VDC-2 collapsed in the storm killing her five-year-old son Subash. The tin roof was blown 200 metres away. Man Kumari, her husband and another local resident were injured in the storm. Man Kumari has been admitted

to the Koshi Zonal Hospital, Biratnagar. The tower of Saptakoshi FM in Biratnagar was severely damaged in the storm and collapsed, said the FM office chief Shiva Ghimire incurring a damage of around Rs 2 lakh. Trees along the Mahendra highway, especially on the Dharan-Biratnagar sector, have been uprooted disrupting traffic. However, security forces removed the trees this afternoon. Hundreds of electric poles have been uprooted or broken by the storm leaving parts of Biratnagar without power supply since last evening. The damage has been estimated at over Rs 2 millions, according to Nepal Electricity Authority Biratnagar chief, Kailash Prasad Atal. In a separate incident, property worth around Rs 7 lakh was razed in a fire, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Morang.
