18 Nepalis, 2 Germans rescued from Saribung

LAMJUNG: An expedition team that was trapped in the mountains in western Nepal following a snowstorm on Friday was rescued today. The team included two German climbers and 18 Nepalis, who were mountain guides and support staff.

The team was descending towards Manang after the expedition of Saribung Peak in the Upper Mustang.

According to the Manang District Administration Office, the rescued Germans are Tobias Groenen (48) and his wife Gudrun Ingrid Ziermann (44).

The German nationals and two Nepalis, who sought serious medical attention, were airlifted to Kathmandu on a Simrik Air chopper today, according to the Chief District Officer of Manang, Bhimkanta Sharma.

KATHMANDU: As many as 20 climbers including two German nationals were stranded in Saribung Himal (6346 metre) following a strong snowstorm on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred while they were climbing down the peak, the District Police Office, Manang, informed.

The German nationals have been identified as T0bias Groenen (48) and his wife Gudrun Ingrid Ziermann (44).*

Police said that two choppers of the Simrik Air have been dispatched for the rescue operation.
