Students faint after beating

Panchthar, July 26:

Two students of the Phidim-based Bidya Bardan Boarding School, aged six and four years, fell unconscious after a teacher, Dil Bahadur Karki, beat them up yesterday.

The two were admitted to a hospital. The school administration said the teacher has stopped coming to the school.

Six-year-old Eliza Ojha, an LKG student, and her four-year-old brother Elson fell unconscious due to the beating, students witness to the beating said. The children’s aunt Dilli Kumari said they were hospitalised as they were suffering from fever.

A delegation of guardians and human rights activists met acting chief district officer Ram Mani Pokhrel and demanded that he initiate action against the teacher.

Pokhrel issued a notice to the school-owner Chandra Bhattarai, directing him to produce Karki before the administration in 24 hours. Bhattarai said that Karki had absconded. Representative of the Panchthar chapter of the INSEC Krishna Ojha said a law should be made to punish such teachers.
