Students to get involved in reconstruction work

Dhangadi, February 18

Dhangadi Engineering College in Kailali, affiliated to Pokhara University, has decided to deploy as many as 45 engineering students for the reconstruction campaign.

A college source said it had decided to mobilise its students to reconstruct physical infrastructures that were destroyed or damaged by the 2015 earthquakes in line with a request made by the National Reconstruction Authority. The college has deployed students in their last year of civil engineering course.

A seven-day training on building earthquake resistant buildings started last Thursday for the students.

Engineer Jankaraj Joshi of the NRA said Pokhara University had decided to deploy the students as volunteers. Joshi said this would motivate other universities too to do the same.

Principal at the college Shivhari Mudbhari asked students to work with sincerity and professionalism in the field.

Kailali Assistant CDO Hiralal Chaudhary said this was a great opportunity for students to practice what they had learned in the classroom.

Following the one-week training, students will be sent to quake affected places for three weeks, according to the college.
