Students, guardians padlock school

HETAUDA, July 15

Students and guardians padlocked a school on Wednesday after the school management committee decided to give retirement to three teachers of Kamala Lower Secondary School at Harnamadhi Dovanchaur of Hetauda Sub-metropolis in Makawanpur.

Following the dispute, students and guardians have demanded the resignation of the school Chairman Amrit Bahadur Ghimre and head teacher Kumar Prasad Adhikari. The three teachers are Mina Thapa, Anu Shrestha and Sarita Baniya. They had been serving the school since 2008.  It is said that the meeting of the school management committee and parent-teacher union on Monday took the decision.

Meanwhile, head teacher Adhikari said that they decided to let go of the teachers due to insufficient school fund. “We released the salary for some months even by going into debt, but the school cannot offer salary to the teachers any further,” he informed. He said that they were compelled to take such a decision as the school has not been able to release the salary for five months.

Adhikari accused the protesters of overplaying the issue.

The guardians said that the school is preparing to appoint new teachers after a month. They have demanded that the concerned authority let the existing teachers continue rather than appoint fresh ones.

It is said that the terminal examinations, scheduled to be held from Thursday, has been affected due to the dispute. There are 260 students in the school.
