Students, party cadres clash in Dharan

Dharan, January 26:

Students of the seven political parties intervened in a corner meeting organised at Bhanuchowk by the Rastriya Janamukti Party today to protest the “non-inclusion of rights of indigenous communities in the interim constitution”.

The students grabbed mike, flags and banner.

A clash ensued between students and participants of the meeting. Both sides pelted stones at each other. Nepal Students’ Union unit president at the Mahendra Multiple Campus Gyanendra Rumdali was injured in the incident, said district chairman of the union Bikas Acharya. Three persons were arrested, the police said.

Though shops were shut following the clash, some of them opened in the evening. Eyewitness said, the students affiliated to the seven political parties got agitated after leaders of the Rastriya Janamukti Party, including Gorebahadur Khapangi, former minister in the royal government, began criticising the eight parties.

Though the Party called a chakkajam to protest the intervention, police foiled it.
