Students urged to work for timely CA polls
Kathmandu, April 7:
Leaders of political parties today said students needed to play crucial role to ensure that the CA polls take place in a peaceful manner and on time.
Acting general secretary of CPN (United Marxist), Lok Narayan Subedi, today said the students, who play crucial role in every change, should fight against the ‘royalist attitude’, that still remains within various parties, to ensure that the CA polls happen on time.
While addressing a function organised to mark fifth memorial day of the first martyr of the joint students’ movement, Devilal Poudel, organised by Nepal Progressive Students Federation (NPSF), Subedi said palace was trying to disrupt the upcoming CA polls.
He said students should also raise voice against the state of impunity that still persists in the country.
Subedi also expressed concern over the dual attitude of the US government on Maoists. “The US has provided $ 2 million assistance but has not withdrawn Maoists from its terrorist list yet,” he commented.
During the same function, Himal Sharma, general secretary of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary said the first cabinet meeting of the interim government, which includes CPN-Maoist leaders, should make a decision to arrest king Gyanendra and probe him.
He also said if the cabinet fails to take few bold steps people would not feel that the CA polls will happen on time. He also stressed on the need for unity among leftist and republican forces.
He also claimed that the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly will not be able to throw king Gyanendra out of Narayanhiti palace because many political parties still have intimate relationship with the palace.
He also demanded the government declare Devilal Poudel a martyr. “CA polls is not everything but a medium to reach to the republican Nepal,” he said.
President of Nepal Revolutionary Students Union, Narayan Koju, claimed that the people indicted by the report of Mallik Commission and the Rayamajhi Commission may never be booked.
