Students’ strike affects Lahan

Siraha, June 24:

Normal life in Lahan and surrounding areas remained crippled today due to the indefinite strike called by agitating students.

An agitation committee of students has called the bandh to protest the non-implementation of the agreement reached after the death of student Kundan Shah.

Shah, a student at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan of Sunsari district had died in a mysterious circumstances in hostel two weeks ago.

Following the strike, educational institutions, bazaar and transport remained shut throughout the day.

Though short-route vehicles remained off the road, a few long-route vehicles left Lahan under police escort.

The protesting students strongly demanded that Shah be declared a martyr and compensation provided to the bereaved family.
