Suicidal if parties ally with Maoists: Shailaja
KATHMANDU: Contradicting the statement of Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala, NC leader Shailaja Acharya today said it would be suicidal if the party were to forge a working alliance with the Maoists. She warned of “severe crises” and even “civil war” if the NC “deviates” from its “middle way” and if the King failed to initiate dialogue with the parties at a time when the country was heading towards “sharp polarisation.” “Heading towards sharp polarisation is extremely dangerous for the future of both the monarchy and the country,” she said, pointing to the issue of a republican set-up being raised in her party. “It is high time the King initiated efforts to revive the 1990 constitution in order to save the country’s sovereignty,” Acharya told mediapersons at Reporters’ Club, suggesting the King adopt “corrective measures”.
