Nawalparasi, January 20
Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala announced her decision to contend for party president in the party’s upcoming general convention.
“Earlier, I was thinking of announcing my candidacy for the party’s presidency from Morang, but now that the nationwide tour has boosted my confidence, I declare my candidacy for the post from here,” said Koirala, speaking at a press conference organised by Nepal Press Union Nawalparasi, in Kawasoti today.
“As a certain coterie in the party is up to wiping out the political history of the Koiralas, I hope my candidacy will be an answer to them,” she said, also expressing expectation of support from incumbent party president Sushil Koirala.
“Last time, when I was mulling over filing my candidacy, party president Sushil Koirala had asked me to support him and I obliged.
This time, I’m confident that I will beat all other contenders with the president’s support,” she added.
