Sunkoshi hydel to resume power generation soon

CHAUTARA: The 10.05 Mega Watt (MW) Sunkoshi Hydropower, which remained shut after the flooded Bhotekoshi River caused damage to it on July 15, would resume its operation in a week or so.

Work is being done on war footing to change the course of the from the dam, according to Production In-charge of Nepal Electricity Authority, Sunkoshi Centre Suraj Dahal.

He said it may take a week to complete maintenance and resume power generation.

The project, which remained closed after Jure landslides for months, had been generating 7 MW electricity from two of the three turbines.

The disaster-hit Sindhupalchok district witnessed the damage of physical property of hydropower projects worth around Rs 500 million.

The 45-MW Upper Bhotekoshi, 3.1 MW Bhairabkunda and 4.2-MW Baramchi hydropower projects have been closed after the 2015 devastating earthquakes.
