Sunsari records rise in snake bite cases

ITAHARI: The number of snake bite cases in the Community Snake Bite Treatment Centre, located within the Nepal Army Eastern Division Headquarters premises, is on the rise.

With the rise in the mercury, a daily average of people visiting the Centre for snake bite treatment has crossed five, informed Centre's Administrative Board Chairman Biwash Pokharel.

A total of 135 people have received treatment for snake bite till June 11, Pokharel said, while the number of cases in May was recorded as 94.

At the Inaruwa-based District Hospital, the number of snake bite cases was recorded at 15 in the same period, informed the Hospital.

The cases recorded arrive mostly from Sunsari, Jhapa, Morang, Bhojpur and Tethrathun districts.

The Centre, which operates with 16 beds, has been providing free of cost treatment and anti-snake venom to the patients. Though, the patients are required to pay for any other necessary medication.
