Supreme Court comes up with Dashain work schedule

Kathmandu, October 10:

The Supreme Court today assigned seven justices to work during Dashain holidays.

The court hears habeas corpus petitions only during Dashain.

According to spokesperson for the SC, Til Prasad Shrestha, for the next 15 days, the judges will only hear habeas corpus petitions registered during the holidays. Regular business of the court will be closed from Friday.

A full-court meeting held yesterday assigned justices Sharada Shrestha, Rajendra Kumar Bhandari, Gauri Dhakal, Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Tahir Ali Ansari, Ram Prasad Shrestha and Kalyan Shrestha to look into habeas corpus cases during the period.

As per the Supreme Court Regulation, 1992, the court has to remain open to look into habeas corpus petitions if a public holiday is for over seven consecutive days.

All appellate courts, save the Patan Appellate Court, will remain open to look into habeas corpus cases.
