Jhapa, January 29:

Nepali Congress acting president Sushil Koirala today said the government has failed to maintain law and order in the country.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the NC Jhapa district chapter in Birtamod, he said, “It is a weakness on the part of the government not to take control of the situation when I was booed and attacked during a visit to Tarai districts.”

“Chanting slogans and showing black flags can be accepted in democracy. But hurling stones at someone is undemocratic,” he said. “I will draw the attention of the Prime Minister and the Home Ministry to maintain law and order,” he said. When asked about the controversy over the remarks of Minister Sujata Koirala and central member Bijay Gachhedar, he said, “They expressed anger as the Maoists have not returned seized property and atrocities of the YCL are still on. “But their statements are not against the NC Mahasamiti decision.”

He hoped that India would continue to support the ongoing peace process and the CA polls.

The seven parties have not yet discussed about the deployment of the Nepal Army in the polls, Koirala said, adding that the polls would be held on April 10 at any cost. He urged journalists to help make conducive atmosphere for the polls.
