Sushil warns NC leaders of action over pro-king remarks

Pokhara, December 21:

Acting president of the Nepali Congress Shushil Koirala today said the NC would take disciplinary action against party leaders advocating monarchy and make irresponsible statements in favour of the monarchy.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Nepal Press Union in Pokhara, Koirala said that no one has the right to speak against the party’s official policy.

Stating that the NC Mahasamiti meeting had endorsed to go for a republic, Koirala asked the party leaders not to make public opinion against the Mahasamiti’s mandate. He said the first sitting of the constituent assembly would convert the nation into a republic.

Koirala warned that the country would face a serious crisis if the constituent assembly elections were not held even by mid-April. “Deferral of elections once again will end the legitimacy of the seven-party alliance,” Koirala said. “Royalists will raise their heads again if the CA polls are not held by then,” he added.

He said the Nepali Congress will not support an all-out proportional electoral system and it will always stand for mixed election system.

He said that there was no possibility of changing the guard of government before the elections.
