Syndicate scrapped

Chautara, October 24:

The syndicate system of goods carriers, which had been enjoying monopoly in transportation of Chinese goods imported through the Tatopani check point on Araniko Highway, has been scrapped.

A meeting between Sindhupalchok Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Nepal Trans-Himalayan Trade Association, members of the Constituent Assembly and truck and container entrepreneurs decided to put an end to the system. Traders said transport fares would be cheaper after the end of the system.

However, president of Trans-Himalayan Trade Association Durga Bahadur Shrestha said fare rates have not been changed yet even though the syndicate system has been dissolved.
