Tanker drivers protest in Amlekhgunj

Birgunj, June 3

Protesting the thrashing of a fellow driver, tanker drivers in Bara today halted loading and unloading fuel at Amlekhgunj depot. Apparently, Indian Police had beaten the driver at Raxaual border point.

Nepal Oil Corporation Deputy Manager at Amlekhgunj, Ramhari Niraula,  said that the drivers had stopped loading and unloading petroleum products at Amlekhgunj depot.

Tanker drivers said that Indian police had thrashed their colleague mercilessly and had even threatened to kill him.

The agitating drivers today staged a sit-in in front of NOC Amlekhgunj Office. They said they would not resume work until their security was guaranteed.

Deputy Manager Niraula said he would take the initiative and hold talks with the agitating drivers to sort out the problem so as to resume the supply of petroleum products. “Prolonged agitation at Amlekhgunj might hit fuel supply across the country,” said an NOC source.
