Taplejung pregnant woman dies for want of timely treatment

TAPLEJUNG: A pregnant woman died after a helicopter failed to pick her up due to adverse weather conditions from the remote district of Taplejung today.

Pema Sherpa (40) from Papung died at 1:00 am after the Manang Air Helicopter could not arrive at the site due to inclement weather conditions, Sherpa's uncle, Nurpu Sherpa, said.

The chopper had made two failed attempts to land, but could not rescue her on time.

The helicopter landed at Kholing and later was stationed at Bhanujan Primary School premises in Phuling after failing to land at the second attempt. It could not even take off in the morning as the weather did not clear.

The annual death rate of pregnant women due to lack of timely treatment is still unabated in this far-flung district.
