Tarai likely to witness hotter summer

DHANGADHI: It's not even April and mercury in the Tarai region has begun soaring. According to Attariya-based field office of Meteorology department, Kailai recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius today.

Rita Mahato, who heads the department in Attariya, said, "The temperature that was recorded in mid-April last year has been recorded in March this year.'' She said 34 degrees Celsius was recorded on March 23 last year, adding, "This indicates that mercury will soar higher than the previous year."

She blames increased pollution and deforestation in the areas for the unprecedented rise in temperature.

She added, "With more and more people from the hilly regions migrating to the Tarai, deforestation and pollution have gone up at an alarming rate."
