MAHOTTARI: A teacher has been reportedly arrested for raping his 14-year-old student in Mahottari district on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Pramod Mahato (28), a permanent resident of Aurahi Rural Municipality-1.

Mahato allegedly took the girl to Sitamarhi in India and held her captive before committing the heinous crime on August 1, according to the Gaushala-based Area Police Office.

When the eighth grader was not found in her home on August 1, the family made an appeal to the police administration. However, she was rescued by her relatives on August 5, according to Deputy Superintyendent of Police Deepak Pokharel at the APO.

Police presumed that Mahato might have been raping the girl applying various enticements from time to time. Mahato had been providing tuition to the girl for a year in the village.

Meanwhile, the girl has undergone a medical test and the authorities are waiting for the report, Inspector Shambhu Pokharel shared.

Mahato has been taken into police custody and would face the charges for rape, forcible physical detention and trafficking if found guilty, added Pokharel.
