Teacher gunned down

BARA: An unidentified gang gunned down a teacher in Bara’s Pheta village development committee on Thursday. The gang of three on a motorbike shot dead Pradip Timalsina, 43, a resident of Kalaiya-1. Timalsina was a teacher at Nepal Rastriya Secondary School in the VDC.

He was shot in the head on his way back from the school at Jagatpur of Pheta VDC around 2 pm, police said, adding Timalsina died on the spot. He is survived by a son, a daughter and a wife.

Meanwhile, irate locals and teachers affiliated to the Nepal Teachers’ Union on Thursday demonstrated in front of the District Police Office with the body demanding action against the guilty, granting martyrdom to the deceased and compensation for the kin of the victim.

NTU has warned of indefinite chhakajam in Kalaiya if the demands were not fulfilled.

Schools will be closed and sit-in will be staged in front of the District Education Office to protest the killing tomorrow, a statement issued by Devendra Giri, NTU Bara chairman said. According to the police, nobody has owned up the killing yet.
