Teachers flee fearing torture

Birgunj, March 9:

The Nepal Rastriya Prathamik Vidyalaya located in Parsa’s Thori VDC has remained shut for a week after all the teachers left the village due to insecurity.

Teachers Krishna Bahadur Tamang and Menuka Khatiwada left the school after the army tortured them yesterday. About 125 students have been affected due to the absence of teachers in the school located in Thori, 60 km from the district headquarters. Their whereabouts are not known. According to the victims, the teachers were tortured by the Lieutenant of the Bagahi barrack in the Royal Chitwan National Park, Rajendra Singh Adhikari.

Based on a complaint registered by Menuka’s former husband, Hari Bahadur Rimal of Thori VDC, Lieutenant Adhikari summoned both of them and tortured them, the victims said.
