Teachers on leave for months in Rolpa school
Rukum, September 9:
Absence of teachers for several months has been adversely affecting studies in Triveni Higher Secondary School at Rungha VDC in Rukum district.
Four teachers Sher Bahadur Khadka, Moti Lal Oli, Dilli Bahadur Malla and Shriram Shah are not present in the school for the past several months.
Khadka, a higher-secondary level teacher, had gone to Kathmandu for study in mid-April and he has not returned yet. Malla has remained absent without any information since the second week of July, the school source said.
Similarly, lower-secondary level teacher Oli, who had gone to Surkhet for study in mid-May, and Shah, a permanent resident of Siraha district had gone to Siraha in December last year, have also not returned to the school.
Headmaster Bhupendra Pun said the teachers were on study leave and it was not certain when they would return. Students are forced to waste time by playing during the class hours, guardians complained, adding students return home after 1 pm everyday due to the teachers’ absence.
There are all together 10 teachers in the school, however, all the secondary-level teachers are absent. Only four primary-level teachers and a lower-secondary level teacher are present in the school these day.
The District Education Office has not taken any action against the absentees. District Education Officer Badri Prasad Basnet however said action would be taken against them after holding discussions with the school management committee.
