Teenager killed, three hurt in Parbat landslides

POKHARA: A teenage boy died after he was buried under the rubble of a house destroyed by a landslide that occurred in Jaljala Rural Municipality-8 of Parbat district on Tuesday night.

The landslide triggered by incessant rain at Lasti Berneta completely destroyed two houses, at around 1:00 am today, according to Parbat's Chief District officer (CDO) Gurudatta Dhakal.

The security personnel deployed from Milanchok-based police post, with the help of local residents recovered the body of 16-year-old Bikash Pariyar and handed over to his family members, at around 4:00 am today. Other family members residing in the two houses escaped the calamity in time.

It has been noted that the whole village is at the risk of landslides as it lies on the slope, just below the hill, and between two streams flowing downwards from the hill.

Meanwhile, the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee, Parbat has provided Rs 100,000 to the victim's family members. At least fifteen other households have also been displaced. The Nepal Red Cross Society has also distributed the food and relief items to the displaced families who have shifted to a local school, said CDO Dhakal.

Likewise, another landslide triggered by rain also destroyed a house in Dhairing Baskot area of the rural municipality's ward no. 7.

The injured have been identified as local residents Bhim Bahadur Acharya (70), Tulsi Devi Acharya (55) and Narayan Acharya (65).

According to the CDO, the injured have been sent to Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital, Baglung for the treatment and would be sent to Pokhara if further treatment required.

CDO Dhakal said that he reached the incident site clearing landslide debris which have blocked several places along road from Maldhunga to Beni in the district.
