Tension ran high in Kanchanpur after Indian armed gang enters village

MAHENDRANAGAR: Tension ran high in Kutiyakawar, Dodhara-Chandani of Kanchanpur-10 after a group of armed Indian nationals tried to attack a Nepali national.

Bhapal Basnet was on his way to a neighbouring village on Wednesday when a group of 40/50 armed Indians tried to attack him.

They ran away from the village via Jogbuda River after the locals informed the police. However, Indian police personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have managed to nab five of them.

A joint team of the Nepal police and the Armed Police Force impounded a Yamaha motorcycle bearing Indian number plate (UK 06 R 8317) and sharp weapons from the site. Similarly, SSB also recovered sickles and knives among other sharp weapons.

Locals suspected that the armed gang might have come from Melaghat and Khatima of India.

Though tension gripped the village after the incident, the situation has come to normalcy, police informed.

The motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, police added.
