Terai Unrest: Call to amend interim statute
Palpa, January 31:
Central member of the CPN-Maoist and Lumbini in-charge Pampha Bhusal today said amendment to the interim constitution was the only way to quell ongoing unrest in the Terai.
Speaking at a press meet organised by the Palpa chapter of Press Chautari Nepal (PCN) in Tansen, Bhusal said royalists were using those who had quit the CPN-Maoist to fuel violence in the Terai. She added that the only agenda of all the Nepalis was a democratic republic. Stating that the CPN-Maoist has kept its promise of the idea of an inclusive Nepal by ensuring 50 per cent representation to the women and 20 per cent to the Dalits in its group in the parliament, Bhusal said the Maoists’ ideology was different from that of other parties.
“Regressive forces are involved in fuelling anarchy and conspiring to thwart the election to the constituent assembly,” she said. Alleging that royalists and Hindu extremists were behind the unrest in the Terai, Bhusal said a declaration of a republican setup only would stop the royalists from hatching conspiracies.
Vice-chairman of the PCN-Palpa Kamal Raj Timilsina also addressed the programme.
