Terror will derail peace process, says Moriarty
Biratnagar, April 19:
United States Ambassador to Nepal James F Moriarty today said that the peace process would not be successful as long as violence and terror prevail in the country.
Speaking to journalists here, Moriarty said he had found during his visit to the districts of eastern Tarai that there was no harmony between people of the Madhesi community and those of other communities.
He stressed the need for sincere commitment of the political parties for the establishment of peace in the country.
Stating that the world is centering on peace and democracy in Nepal, Moriarty said the US has been laying emphasis on the peace process and establishment of democracy here.
“As the Nepalese want to establish democracy peacefully, the United States will always support their desire,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) cadres protested Moriarty’s visit and waved black flags.
They chanted slogans against US ambassador Moriarty in front of Genial Hotel where he had put up. Cadres of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), the Madhesi Rastriya Mukti Morcha and Revolutionary Mukti Morcha were involved in the protest. They organised a street corner gathering in front of Genial Hotel and YCL Morang in-charge Dipesh Limbu addressed the gathering. He alleged that Moriarty’s visit was a part of conspiracy.
