Tharuhat activists vandalise vehicles

ITAHARI: At least sixteen vehicles were vandalised in Sunsari on the third day of the indefinite Tarai bandh called by Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee (TJSC) on Friday. Tharuhat activists vandalised 10 trucks, a tractor and a microbus in Duhabi for defying the bandh, police said. Two tempos were vandalised in Jhumka and a microbus each in Itahari and Hasposa in the morning.

However, vehicles plied on Dharan-Sunsari and Itahari-Kakarvitta routes in the afternoon but the Itahari-Biratnagar route bore a deserted look. In Biratnagar municipal area, traffic was as usual.

In Dang, the bandh affected areas in Lamahi, Tulsipur and Bhaluwang. Hundreds of passengers were stranded in Bhaluwang. The agitators set ablaze three motorbikes in Narayanpur last night, Dang District Police Office said. The agitators padlocked 11 offices including Nepal Electricity Authority office, Area Administration Office, Water Induced Natural Disaster Control Office and Agriculture Input Office. Tharuhat Autonomous State Council organised a meet in Lamahi today. Leaders Ganga Tharu, Lila Gambhir Tharu and Birendra Chaudhari warned of continued bandh until the the government implemented the five-point pact. In Nawalparasi, Sarlahi and Rautahat, traffic was brought to a standstill.
