Tharus target West Seti hydel project
DHANGADHI: Laxman Tharu, central chairman of Tharuhat Autonomous State Council, today said they would not let the West Seti Hydropower Project materialise.
Speaking at a meeting of the Tharu community, he said the power project was not in favour of the indigenous people. “The project will displace the Tharus if constructed,” he clarified, claiming that the project would not be successful since the contractor had earned bad reputation in similar ventures.
ADB and World Bank pulled out of the project since the indigenous people were against it, Tharu claimed, threatening action if it was constructed without their consent.
