13 feared dead in landslides across the nation

At least nine persons lost their lives in the last two days due to several landslides across the nation.

Two persons were killed in landslides in Kaski, three in Parbat, three in Tehrathum and one in Pyuthan, while three persons went missing in Mugu and one in Kaski after local rivers swept them away.

Shova Poudel, 33, of Pokhara-Lekhnath Metropolitan died after landslide swept away the kitchen of her house early this morning. Her house is on the bank of the Seti River. She was throwing water that had entered into her kitchen from the flooded Seti River when the landslide struck. Police said Shova’s body was recovered 100 metres from her house.

Fourteen-year-old Tanka Chhetry of Galyang Municipality, Syangja, died after mudslide struck the house belonging to his uncle, Tara Pati Adhikari, at Parsyangpakha, Pokhara, this morning. Police said Tanka took his last breath in the course of treatment in Fishtail Hospital, Pokhara.

Bodies of Tanka and Shova were kept in Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara, for post-mortem.

Lila Kumari Lamichhane, 55, of Ramja Tilahar, Parbat, went missing after Phushre Khola swept her away at Pumdibhumdi in the metropolis last evening. Police were searching for her.

In Parbat, three persons of a family died on the spot after a landslip buried their house at Mahashila Rural Municipality after incessant rainfall last night. The deceased have been identified as Tirtha Mallathakuri, 63, his mother Bel Kumari Mallathakuri, 80, and his wife Yam Kumari Mallathakuri, 55, of the rural municipality.

In Pyuthan, Tulasa Gharti, 16, of Gaun Gaumukhi Rural Municipality, died after a landslip buried the house belonging to Sher Bahadur Gharti on Saturday night. Police said locals rescued two persons buried under the debris.

Three persons were killed on the spot and three others injured after a landslide struck their house at Aangdim of Myanglung Municipality in Tehrathum yesterday. The deceased have been identified as Kumari Sodengba, 50, Preeti Sodengba, 9, and Prem Kumar Sodengba, 7.

Tenzen Lama, 34, Urgin Lama, 14, and Kunjang Lama, 24, of Mugamkarmarong Rural Municipality, Mugu, went missing while they were crossing a local river last evening after collecting Yarshagumba. A police team has been searching for them.
