Thokarpa victims seek damages
Thokarpa, March 31:
The family of Bam Bahadur Khatri who was killed in an army aerial attack on Thokarpa on Monday is expecting compensation from the government.
Locals also sought appropriate compensation for other damages caused by the attack on private and public property.
Khatri was killed in the aerial raid launched by the army when Maoists were about to hold a programme on a school premises.
Talking to mediapersons who reached the village today, Khatri’s son Krishna Bahadur said the family is expecting appropriate compensation from the government. The family’s cattle were also killed and the house damaged in the raid.
Khatri was killed when security forces bombed his house after Maoists took refuge in the house following the raid. With his father dead, Krishna said he is the one who will
have to take care of the whole family. “My brother is disabled and it is now my responsibility to take care of the family. But how am I supposed to do that alone?” he said.
Krishna said he needed support from the government to take care of his disabled brother and the family. His neighbours also said the Khatri family needs compensation, as the family is extremely poor. “As the head of the family was killed, cattle died and house damaged, the government must provide compensation to the family,” Tej Bahadur Karki, a local said.
Local residents also demanded compensation for other damages caused by the attack. The building of Bagh Bhairab Higher Secondary School, an Ayurved medical store and at least six civilian houses were damaged in the attack.
“Lets hope the government will provide some relief to the victims,” Krishna Prasad Neupane, a local social worker, said.
Meanwhile, Sindhupalchowk CDO Hari Krishna Upadhyay said he would inquire about the deceased and damaged civilian houses. He said he had directed the District Education Office to assess the loss incurred by the school.
