Three elections within 1.5 years, says DPM Mahara

POKHARA: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara said on Friday that the government was committed to holding local, provincial and federal elections within next one and half years.

Inaugurating the 31st general convention of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry today, Mahara said the government would combat any obstruction to the polls.

Nepal was still undergoing political and economic transition and it would continue till federal structures would get fully active, the CPN Maoist Centre leader remarked.

“The government has begun to restructure the state with the establishment of high courts. However, the challenge is to fix capitals for the provinces and to hold the elections,” Mahara said indicating that the transitional phase would also end with it.

He added that the centralised state structure was being decentralised from the local level to develop the country.

Mahara was of the view that the country cannot get into the pace of its development without the involvement of private sectors and bolstering private sectors can result into increase in revenue of the country.
