Three murder suspects arrested

Police today arrested three persons in connection with the murder of a woman in Chitwan’s Rapti Municipality yesterday.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Durgaraj Regmi of Chitwan District Police Office, 52-year-old Rupa Thapa of Mudbhar in Rapti Municipality was murdered with a sharp weapon last night.

The murder was carried out while she was alone at home.

While her husband had gone to Indonesia for a visit, her eldest son had gone to Kathmandu for some important business. Her youngest son is in the US. Her daughter is married. The arrested included a helper at Thapa’s home who had slept in the adjoining room on the night the murder took place.

Following the incident, District Police Office had assigned a team with a sniffer dog to investigate the murder. The same team arrested the house help and two others for the murder.

“After arresting the suspects, we have started our investigation,” said DSP Regmi.

Police did not reveal the identities of the arrested persons citing possible impact on the investigation.

The woman had wounds from a khukuri attack on her head, forehead and arms. Police had also recovered a khukuri from the incident site. The body has been at Bharatpur Hospital for post-mortem.

According to police, the murder could have taken place due to a personal issue.
