Timber smuggling up in Nawalparasi

KAWASOTI: Smuggling of timber in the forests of Nawalpur in Nawalparasi district has gone massively in the recent days.

Generally, smuggling of the timber takes place during winter as the smugglers take advantage of the foggy morning. It is said that timber smuggling is rife in the national and community forests.

Timber smuggling has gone unchecked in Hasaura, Ritthepani, Shankhadev, Jukepani, Deurali, Lamsariya, Arunkhola, Mainaghat and other adjoining areas and the smugglers have cut down a large number of trees in the areas of nearly 40 kms.

Bikram Khanal, a local resident of Kawasoti, said that the forest administration has paid no heed despite it was informed about the ongoing activities of the smugglers.

However, Chief of Sector Forests Office, Kawasoti, Krishna Prasad Devkota said that they were patrolling by joining hands with the community forests.
