Top leadership weakening provincial govt: CM Gurung
Pokhara, May 20
Province 4 Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung today accused the top leadership of major political parties of trying to weaken the provincial government.
Inaugurating a two-day interaction on parliamentary exercise and law making procedure for Provincial Assembly members in Pokhara, CM Gurung charged the leadership of major political parties with playing an active role in weakening the provincial government and empowering central and local governments.
“It is very important that we make the provincial government powerful. Work of the provincial government should be more effective than that of local government,” Gurung stated.
Noting that society was still plagued by ethnic, religious, cultural and economic inequalities and disparity, Gurung stressed the provincial government was a must to end all kinds of discrimination and disparity.
Gurung held that his government could not perform as expected due to lack of budget. “Partial budget of Rs 1,050,000,000 has been allocated for two months. But, we cannot implement our policies and programmes for want of experts and technical manpower,” he said. He slammed the federal government for making the provincial government toothless by not delegating authority.
At the programme, Minister for Financial Affairs and Law Hari Bahadur Chuman said that lawmakers from the province should be sensitive and wise enough while making provincial laws.
