Torrential rain, landslides affect transportation in far-western Nepal
DHANGADHI: Rainfall-triggered landslides have disrupted transportation across the highways and roads in Far-Western Region of Nepal.
The road sections of East-West Highway and the Dashrath Chand Highway and Bhimdatta Pant Highway have developed potholes, cracks and craters due to the incessant rain. The latter being the main road connecting hilly Far-Western Development Region has experienced the worst due to the landslides triggered by monsoon downpour.
Similarly, the road connecting Achham with Bajura districts in Barjughat area and the road sections in Raduwakhola, Tiltoli and Rampur of KI Singh Highway connecting Dadeldhura and Doti has been severely damaged. The road sections of Pahaman Singh Swar Highway experience the same.
According to the District Development Committee (DDC) Programme Officer Tek Bahadur Khadka, rural and agricultural roads have been totally damaged in Doti. Further he expressed his disappointment that the DDC's fund would not be enough to reconstruct the roads.
During the rainfall it is not possible for vehicles to ply the gravelled roads not even the tarmacked roads, said driver Mahindra Budha.
The vehicular movement along the damaged roads have been disrupted since the landslide debris have not been cleared yet. Consequently, the transportation is being operated at own risk, complained the Doti-based Saileshwori Transportation Entrepreneurs' Association chairman Ganesh Bahadur Malasi.
