Torture slur on Surkhet DSP, ASI
Surkhet, June 17:
A 19-year-old girl of Birendranagar Municipality-6 today accused two policemen at the Surkhet District Police Office of torturing her in police custody.
The victim, Sony Kuresi, said DSP Govinda Shah and ASI Gyanu Maya Thapa tortured her in police custody, accusing her of stealing cash that belonged to her relative, Ashish. At a press conference here today, Kuresi said the police detained her to interrogate 11 days after Ashish lost cash from her house.
“DSP Shah and ASI Thapa poked pins in my feet and repeatedly beat me up in a bid to force me to admit to the theft,” she said. “I fell unconscious several times.”
“The police also confiscated Rs 34,000 from my sister Moti Kuresi, who came to meet me at the police office,” she blamed. “She was freed only after she fell on DSP Shah’s feet.”
The police have threatened her not to make the case public, she alleged. Sony was rushed to Kathmandu for treatment 15 days after the torture.
Surkhet SP Ram Kumar Khanal said he had no knowledge of the incident, as he was on leave at the time the incident occurred. The case would be investigated and the guilty would be booked, he said.
