Traders shut Kalaiya against murder

Bara, February 2:

The Bara district Chambers of Commerce and Industries today shut down Kalaiya bazaar and obstructed traffic to protest against murder of local businessman and Nepali Congress (NC) cadre Shravan Kumar Sah Kanu of Kalaiya municipality-6.

The protesters demanded action against the killers and compensation to Kanu’s family. Kanu, 32, was found dead yesterday near Tegraha bridge in Majhauliya of Bara. There were bullet injuries on his body.

Bara CCI president Shiv Nath Sharma led a delegation to the chief district officer Kamleshwar Sinha. The delegation included NC district secretary Tej Narayan Sah, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum district secretary Pramod Gupta, NC city chairman Hari Om Swarnkar and Bara CCI general secretary Sanjay Prasad Gupta.

CCI president Sharma said CDO Sinha has assured of taking intitiative for compensation to Kanu’s family and action against his killers.

Meanwhile, the Bara district police office held a press briefing and presented before the media persons three persons arrested for their suspected involvement in the murder.

SP Hemant Pal said Brijkumar Thakur Hajjam, 25, and Ramkishore Kushwaha, 19, of Majhauliya Tole in Uttarjhitkiya VDC and Ram Ekbal Mahato Mandal, 23, of Musaili village in Basdilwa VDC of Parsa were arrested in possession of a khukuri and a .303 calibre weapon, adding that investigation is underway.

Kanu was cremated on the bank of Pasaha river. The pro-UML youth body Democratic National Youth Federation and the Bara Nagrik Samaj called off their annual town conventions today to condole the death.
