Traders, Tharus clash

Dang, August 28:

Cadres of the Joint Tharu National Front (JTNF) clashed with traders at Lamahi bazaar today, the third day of the chakkajam called by the group in five western districts. The clash erupted after bandh supporters ordered traders to down shutters.

Businessmen torched two motorcycles and three bicycles of the JTNF cadres during the clash, while the bandh supporters also vandalised some vehicles. Lamahi bazaar was completely shut after the clash and remained tense the whole day long.

Businessmen torched motorcycles belonging to the JTNF leaders and three bicycles. A group of businessmen vandalised windowpanes of Yogendra’s house and attacked the office of the Janasewa Nepal. The JTNF cadres also vandalised a jeep, a mini truck and a motorbike.

Three businessmen were injured in the clash, while two were injured in a police lathi-charge. Police also teargassed the mob. A large number of policemen has been deployed in Lamahi. Mahendra Highway wore a deserted look today.
