Traffic cops thrash truck driver in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: A truck driver, who was repairing his vehicle along the east-west highway in Rautahat district was thrashed by three traffic police officers for haphazard parking, on Monday.

Police officers Nandu Das, Saroj Kharel and Rajendra Chaudhary approached truck (Na 4 Kha 4630) Driver Girvand Mahat and welted him mercilessly for parking his truck beside the highway in Chandranigahpur in Rautahat district.

Following the incident, agitated transport labors obstructed the highway for 30 minutes demanding actions against the police officials involved in the act.

Meanwhile, Mahat has been receiving treatment at Chandranigahapur Hospital.

According to Mahat, his vehicle broke down and he was repairing it with the help of mechanic when the three police officials approached and pounded him forcing him to run and hide at a hotel nearby. Moreover, the cops pulled him out from the hiding and thrashed him until he passed out.

“In a country with rule of law and assurance of human rights, I, a daily wage earner was thrashed for no reasons,” lamented Mahat, “I demand actions as per the law against those officers.”

District Chair of Transport Workers Association of Nepal, Manoj Shah said that the road obstruction was lifted off after an agreement after the administration assured action against the police personnel.

Moreover, we will file a FIR against those three if the administration fails to bring them to justice, Shah added.

According to Inspector Ram Mani Upreti of District Traffic Office, Rautahat, necessary investigations will be carried out on involvement of the alleged and if found guilty actions will be taken against them.
