Traffic resumes on Mahendra highway

In an incident of civic sense and respect for the deceased, irate locals who had blocked traffic for 12 hours today following the death of an old man on the Nawalparasi section of the Mahendra highway, allowed traffic to ply when stranded vehicles pooled Rs 100 each for the final rites of the deceased and police assured of nabbing the absconding truck driver who had knocked down the man, said the Kawasoti Area Police Office. Pedestrian Rishi Ram Acharya, 87, of Pragatinagar, Nawalparasi, was killed on the spot when a truck knocked him down near Lokaha bridge last night, said the Area Police Office.
