The birth of triplets has aggravated the hand-to-mouth problems of 37-year-old Kauli Tharu and her husband Ram Milan Tharu, ‘residents’ of Jahadi VDC-2. They neither own land nor have a home. Already a mum of four kids, Kauli, who gave birth to a son and two daughters on December 20, says: “It was the divine wish; it’s OK.”

Kauli gave birth to the triplets on a bed of straw, villagers said. “We have to toil every day to eke out a living,” says Ram Milan.

“We have been facing problems due to poverty,” says Ram Milan, adding that he was planning to opt for family-planning.
