Truckers halt supply in western districts
RUPANDEHI: Western Regional Transport Entrepreneurs’ Committee on Saturday halted the supply of goods in Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi districts.
The truckers’ protest comes in the wake of police high-handedness on their sit-in at Bhairahawa customs office yesterday. The transporters were demonstrating against the provision of exporting goods only in sealed containers. The government, in its budget for the current fiscal, introduced the provision of supplying goods only in sealed containers from Birgunj, Mechi, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa customs points.
Organising a press conference today, the committee said they would organise nationwide protest from tomorrow. Ganesh Prasad Panth, Committee secretary, said they had demanded action against the CDO and the District Police Chief, including Bhairahawa customs office chief and free treatment for the injured.
