TB cases on the decline

It has been reported that the number of tuberculosis patients has gone down this year compared to the previous year in Lamjung.

There were a total of 47 TB patients in the first quarters of the last fiscal while the number was recorded only 41 during the same period this fiscal in the district. There were a total of 139 patients in the fiscal 2016/17 while the number was 156 in 2015/16, as per TB and leprosy supervisor Laxman Basaula. District Public Health Office, Lamjung, claimed that the district witnessed decrease in the number of TB patients due to awareness programmes run in the district.

A total of 14 patients are taking medicine from District Community Hospital Lamjung currently. “We have been providing patients with the drug under direct observation treatment system for effective recovery,” said Sarina Adhikari of DOTS Department at the hospital. According to Adhikari, seven health facilities in the district have been providing free health services to the patients after DOTS was introduced in the district.
