Two cops hurt in stone-pelting
Bardiya, October 8:
Two policemen were injured when agitators pelted a police team with stones along the East-West Highway at Basgadhi of Bardiya district today. An Armed Police Force sub-inspector and a civil police constable were injured when locals, who had been keeping the highway blocked for the last two days, attacked the police team when it tried to reopen the highway section.
On Thursday, one Gauri of Deudakla-3 in Bardiya was hit at Bankatuwa by a vehicle in which Pansara Thakuri and Dinesh Khand were travelling.
Gauri was rushed to hospital, but died undergoing treatment. Demanding compensation, Gauri’s relatives blocked the highway immediately after.
Inspector at the Bardiya district police office Ganesh Bastola said that the agitators clashed with the police team led by deputy superintendent of police Pawan Kharel.
The locals resorted to the blockade after the vehicle owner and Gauri’s relatives failed to reach an agreement on compensation. While Gauri’s relatives demanded Rs 3 lakh, the vehicle owner said he could pay Rs 1.25 lakh only. Inspector Bastola said police had to fire several rounds in the air to disperse the agitators.
