Two dead, 23 hurt as bus plunges 25m in Dolakha

KATHMANDU: Two persons died on the spot and 23 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling on veered off the road in Nayabato of Bigu Rural Municipality-3 in Dolakha district this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Thapa (38) of Chaukune Rural Municipality-3 in Surkhet district and Heera Prasad Mijhar (44) of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-3 in Lamjung district.

According to Dolakha District Police Office, a bus (Ba 4 Kha 4573) ferrying the workers of Sino Hydropower Corporation, a Chinese company, veered off the road and fell about 25 metres below at a sharp turn near Nayabato, killing two passengers aboard and injuring others at around 7:30 am today.

The bus was ferrying manual workers to Nayabato, one of the construction sites of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower project from Gongar in the district, said police.

A team of security personnel from Singati-based Area Police Office reached the incident site to rescue the injured.

Some of the injured were rushed to Charikot-based health institution while others are receiving treatment at Rolwaling Community Hospital in Singati, police informed.
