MANGALBARE: Two persons died after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a truck in Phikkal along the Mechi Highway in Ilam district on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Sharad Poudel (27) of Byas Municipality in Tanahun district and Asmita Rai (25) of Deumai Municipality-5 of Ilam district, according to the District Police Office, Ilam.

The incident occurred when the truck (Me 1 Kha 1942) en route from Ilam  to Jhapa collided head-on with the motorcycle (Ga 12 Pa 483), killing the motorcyclist Poudel on the spot and injuring the pillion rider Rai today, informed police.

Injured Rai succumbed to her injuries on the way to a hospital in Jhapa, added police.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and detained its driver for further investigation, said police.
