Two held for cheating people by selling fake diamond in Lamjung

LAMJUNG: Two persons have been arrested on the charge of selling a fake diamond in Lamjung district, police said today.

Police identified the suspects as 58-year-old Sabitri Silwal Joshi and 20-year-old Aashish Danai both hailing from Beshisahar Municipality-11 and 3 respectively.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yadav Dhakal, the case came to fore after the victims filed an FIR (First Information Report) at the District Police Office.

DSP Dhakal further said, the fraudsters made false promises to their gullible targets--Kaumaya Gurung (59) and Som Bahadur Gurung of Besishahar Municipality-10 and sold them a white stone alike diamond for Rs 300,000 on December 17.

However, the victims could only manage Rs 50,000 at the time of purchase and assured them of paying remaining money later on.

The fraudsters again made repeated calls to Gurung duo and assured them of selling the same diamond for over million rupees and collected Rs 50,000 via IME from them. After realising being duped, the victims filed a complaint at the DPO.

Police Inspector and Information Officer at the DPO, Basanta Pandey said the duo have been charged with fraud case and were presented before the Lamjung District Court today itself.

Meanwhile, they have been remanded in custody for seven days for further investigation, Pandey added.
