PHIDIM: A man and a woman have been arrested on a charge of  polygamy from Panchthar district on Friday, police said.

According to District Police Office Spokesperson and Inspector Anil Paudel, Shakti Thulung Rai (25) of Salpasilicho Rural Municipality-6 in Bhojpur and his new wife Samjhana Jabegu (29) of Falefulung Rural Municipality-8 in Panchathar district were apprehended today.

The case came to fore after Rai's first wife Somila Rai filed an FIR (First Information Report) along with an engagement photo of her husband and his so-called second wife Samjhana.

Shakti had uploaded the engagement picture in his Facebook account on Tuesday, police said.

Meanwhile, the duo have been presented before the district court day and remanded in custody for further investigation.
