Two killed in clash of gangs
Birgunj, March 5:
Two persons were killed when a clash ensued between two groups at Janakitola VDC in Parsa this morning over the issue of hemp smuggling. The fracas occurred between two the groups headed by Jhakkad Miya and Nagendra Mahatto Ketab.
Nagendra Mahatto Ketab and Sakur Miya of the Jhakkad group were killed when the two sides exchanged fire, the Parsa district police office (DPO) quoted locals. However, an eyewitness, Lal Babu Baniya, said Sakur Miya, who sustained bullet injuries, was thrown into a fire. The clash continued till 10.45am.
The two sides had been accusing each other of providing tip-off to police about hemp smuggling for some days. Though the dispute was resolved at the local level yesterday, a clash flared up today. The group headed by Nagendra also torched Jhakkad’s house, five tractors and three motorbikes belonging to villagers at the Janakitola bazaar, police said.
Police could not reach the site on time due to obstructions placed by villagers.
